Robert P. Houston is pleased to announce that he is available to provide mediation services for attorneys practicing in the Golden Crescent region in a wide variety of civil litigation matters. Mr. Houston was certified as a Mediator in November 2005 and since that time has mediated a number of disputes that have resulted in satisfactory resolutions for the parties. Mr. Houston's past courtroom trial experience and law expertise allows him to see both sides of a dispute and to assist the parties with understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their respective factual and legal positions as well as the likely benefits of a voluntarily negotiated settlement of their dispute as opposed to a third party resolution by a judge or jury. If allowed to mediate your client's case, Mr. Houston will work hard to explore all possible avenues leading to a just and fair resolution of the dispute and pledge to use his best efforts to keep the parties negotiating with one another so long as any reasonable possibilty for settlement remains open.

Arbitration or Mediation?

In arbitration, a neutral party hears both sides of a complaint and makes a decision that will be binding on the parties, depending on the terms of the arbitration agreement. Usually, both sides formally agree to submit the dispute to an arbitrator.

In mediation, a neutral party tries to get both sides to agree on a resolution of the complaint. Mediation can begin without any formal agreement between the parties.
